Vorlon Tomato

We are introducing this large variety received from Bulgaria. A stunning purple-black tomato that was the best-tasting tomato we grew last season and is sure to become a new favorite. Rich dark flesh is full of the rich, smoky, organic taste that makes dark varieties among our favorite. Though named for the Vorlons, a fictional alien race, this tomato won't stay an alien long.

What are the pros? Taste, size, look.

What are the cons? N/A

Review:

I again decided this year that this is the best tasting black tomatoes with the least amount of issues. Like all black tomatoes in my geographical area - it takes long time until riped but A . The only issue I have had with rareseed company past few years: majority of black tomato seeds are not uniform, will not produce even the kind that is advertise. It was not Vorlon case this year but it was case of 2 other kinds for 2016. It is more a more common lately....??

What are the pros? Taste, very easy to grow

What are the cons? Super delicate fruit

Review:

New to gardening this year. It's The end of August and still incredibly hot and crazy humid. Of the 4 tomato varieties I tried this year this is the one I was the most excited about. About 90-95% germination rate, produced tons of colorful large fruit and the flavor is the best of the four because it is slightly different than the traditional tomato taste. I'm still harvesting a lot of them and they were the first to ripen. But these guys bruised sooo easily and the next day those spots had mold oozing out of them, often times I hadn't even realized I had bruised it while harvesting...so very thin skinned but that also made some amazing tomato sandwiches. I think I will try another black/purple variety next year to see if I do better with them than these ones, but I'm sure down the road I'll give them another try.

What are the pros? Delicious

What are the cons? Disease issues

Review:

This tomato is delicious and has earned a spot in my garden for years to come. I live by the coast and it was the first of my tomato plants to ripen, and is a big hit amongst all of my family members for its flavor: rich and sweet. It is moderately productive (neighboring plants have produced quite a bit more tomatoes). I have been having some disease issues, particularly with blight and blossom end rot. However, I don't think my issues have been due to the variety itself (Blight is big issue in our community garden and blossom end rot due to putting in new beds this spring and importing soil). That being said, it is still producing delicious tomatoes and has not died completely. Worth growing!!

One of the best tasting tomatoes I grew in 2015. Many large, luscious black beefsteaks with superb flavor. Can't wait to grow it again.

Review:

What an awesome tomato! I never thought I would find a tomato I would like better then Paul Robeson but this one definitely won me over. Out of the forty varieties we grew last year this one was my absolute favorite. Juicy and sweet yet with the distinct smokey black tomato flavor. In our short season and high elevation it is hard to find a large tomato that will produce well but we were able to get a complete harvest off these tomato plants before the frost (granted we had a late frost but they set off earlier then all the other large tomatoes). Out of all the purple, black tomatoes we grew these were the only ones that did not have any disease issues. Lots of tomatoes with good large size.
