(Polygonum orientale) Exotic, long, flowing flower heads are a cerise-pink in color. Plants are over 6’ tall and produce many hanging, rope-like flowers. We are happy to offer this rare and colorful heirloom from the gardens of yesteryear. Freeze seeds for a week before planting, and plant very early in the spring or late winter. A nice cut or dried flower.

What are the pros? Heirloom qualities.

What are the cons? ZERO

Review:

I was given seeds for Kiss Me Over The Garden Gate by my friend Emily Henderson who also shared rareseeds.com with me a number of years ago. I have great success with all your seeds, and this was no different. It seemed to take a while to germinate, but the wait is worth it!

What are the pros? Easy to grow, gorgeous

What are the cons? Attracted Japanese Beatles

Review:

I had no problem starting the seeds and they grew very well in my zone 4. I made the mistake of actually planting these at my vegetable garden gate. I had so so so many Japanese Beatles on these plants. I never had a problem with beatles in previous years on anything. They LOVED this plant. Gorgeous plant and was fun to use the flowers and spilling elements in bouquets. But I would plant them far far from my vegetable garden in the future because of their attraction to Japanese beatles

What are the pros? hot pink color, height, shape

What are the cons? none

Review:

friend gave a few starter plants from seeds. slow to get started, but suddenly they were 7', thick round stem is very self-supporting, flowers are tiny clusters along long stems and droop and hang beautifully. I couldn't be more pleased. then i found out they self-sow. EVEN BETTER. Along a fence line, they are stunning, gorgeous droop in big vases, these are my new favorite flower. they have been blooming since beginning of August, and it's now almost October.

What are the pros? Heat tolerant

What are the cons? Pale color

Review:

This self-sowing flowering plant is interesting, but it needs space unless you prune it. I grew it inside the fence and it was visible to passersby. I wish it came in a hot pink variety. Survived hot dry summers.

What are the pros? Easy to grow, sturdy

What are the cons? Didn't know I was planting it

Review:

I'm not even sure how these ended up in my garden, unless they hitched a ride in an envelope of something else from my order! Needless to say, I didn't freeze the seeds because I didn't even know I had them. These plants are huge - 7feet and up, and taking over the place! The stalks are sturdy and bamboo-like. Best thing I've had from them so far is they are so sturdy that they've helped support my Chinese red noodle beans and my tomatoes that have overgrown their lattices. Worst part is they seem to be way too popular with wasps.
