Cookie Policy

Effective date: August 26, 2026
Last updated: August 26, 2026

This policy explains the cookies and similar technologies we use on rareseeds.com, what each one is for, and how to change your choices. It sits alongside our Privacy Policy, which explains everything else we do with personal information.

1. What these technologies are

  • Cookies are small text files a site stores in your browser. A first-party cookie is set by us; a third-party cookie is set by another company whose service runs on our pages.
  • Pixels are small pieces of code that record an action — viewing a variety, adding it to your cart, completing an order.
  • Local storage lets the site keep information in your browser, for example the contents of your cart.
  • Server-to-server events are sent from our systems directly to a service provider, without going through your browser. These matter because clearing cookies or blocking scripts does not stop them. Your choices below still apply.

2. The three groups, and what you control

Group What it does Can you turn it off?
Essential Makes the site work: remembers your cart, keeps you signed in, holds your currency and language, and protects against fraud and abuse. No. Without these the site cannot function, so we do not ask for consent to set them.
Analytics Tells us which varieties and pages people look for, how they arrived, and where they gave up, so we can improve the catalog and the site. Yes.
Marketing Lets us show you relevant advertising on other sites and measure whether it worked. Yes.

These are exactly the three groups in our cookie dialog. Nothing in Analytics or Marketing is switched on until you allow it, and you can change your mind at any time.

3. How to change your choices

  • On our site — use the Manage Cookies link in the footer of any page. You can accept everything, decline everything, or choose group by group. Your choice applies to the browser you are using, so if you use more than one browser or device you will need to set it on each.
  • Opt-out preference signals — if your browser or an extension sends Global Privacy Control, we treat that as a request to turn Marketing off for that browser. You do not need to do anything else.
  • In your browser — every major browser lets you block or delete cookies in its settings. Blocking Essential cookies will stop parts of the site working, including your cart.
  • Advertising controls — you can also manage advertising preferences directly with Meta and Google through their own account settings.

Do Not Track: browsers vary in how they send this older signal and there is no agreed standard for honoring it, so we do not respond to it. We do honor Global Privacy Control, described above.

4. The cookies we set

4.1 Essential

Name Set by Purpose Lasts
cart, cart_sig, cart_ts Shopify Remembers what is in your cart between pages and visits Up to 2 weeks
cart_currency Shopify Keeps your cart in the currency you selected 2 weeks
localization Shopify Remembers your country and language 1 year
secure_customer_sig Shopify Keeps you signed in to your account 1 year
_tracking_consent, _cmp_a Shopify Records the cookie choices you made, so we can honor them and not ask again 1 year
_shopify_essential, keep_alive Shopify Session integrity and routing Session to 30 minutes
_secure_session_id Shopify Tracks your progress through checkout 24 hours

4.2 Analytics

Name Set by Purpose Lasts
_shopify_y Shopify Distinguishes one visitor from another for store statistics 1 year
_shopify_s Shopify Groups your page views into a single visit 30 minutes
_landing_page, _orig_referrer Shopify Records which page you arrived on and where you came from 2 weeks
_s, _y Shopify Companion identifiers used with the two above 30 minutes / 1 year

4.3 Marketing

These are set only after you allow Marketing.

Set by Purpose Also server-to-server?
Meta (Facebook and Instagram) Measures which advertisements led to a visit or an order, and builds audiences for advertising Yes
Google (including YouTube) Measures advertising performance, supports remarketing, and lists our products in Google Shopping No
Klaviyo Links your browsing to your email or text subscription so the messages you get are relevant, and powers reminders such as an abandoned cart Yes

Where a row says server-to-server, some of that information is sent from our systems to theirs without passing through your browser. Turning Marketing off in our cookie dialog, or sending a Global Privacy Control signal, applies to those transfers as well as to the cookies.

4.4 Other services on our pages

Two further services run on our site and set or read storage in order to work: our product review provider, which records whether you have already reviewed an item, and our recipe provider, which remembers your place in a recipe. Neither is used for advertising.

5. Cookie lists change

The exact cookies present depend on which pages you visit, whether you are signed in, whether you reach checkout, and which choices you have made. We review this list when we add or remove a service. If you find a cookie on our site that is not described here, email us and we will investigate and update this page.
