In USDA Zones 3 to 7, the best time to sow is in early spring as soon as the soil can be worked. In warmer regions, such as Zones 8 to 10, sowing can be done in late fall as well, which gives the seeds exposure to cooler winter temperatures before they bloom in spring. Scatter the seeds on the surface of moist soil. Just barely cover the seeds with soil as poppy seeds need light to germinate. Once seedlings appear, thin them to about 8-10 inches apart​.

Once established, Amazing Grey poppies require minimal care and can be quite drought-tolerant. During the initial growth phase, ensure that the soil remains moderately moist. These poppies typically bloom about 65 days after sowing and may self-seed for subsequent years, providing a natural re-sowing process. Deadhead spent flowers to encourage continued blooming.

• Poppies are mostly self-pollinating; however, small flies and honeybees may cross-pollinate closely planted varieties.
• Often self-sows, but you can also harvest seeds when capsules turn brown and dry completely.
• Save seed over winter in a cool, dark, dry place.
