(Ipomoea nil) This is one of the best morning glories we have grown. It was on display at our gardens in Missouri, and the inquiries were never ending. The foliage is bright lime green and variegated. The large flowers are a very unique true blue with white speckles and stripes. Flowers were prolific and varied, a truly captivating flower. Like most other Japanese Imperial types, this is a shy seed producer; the rare seeds are in limited supply.

What are the pros? Beautiful Foliage and Flowers

What are the cons? Germination is slow

Review:

I grew this first in 2017 and the seeds were slow to germinate but did eventually. The foliage is gorgeous! I was not expecting to get many seeds last year but did get some from a plant that was grown in partial shade. This year I had a few volunteer seedlings from another plant, which were obvious due to the foliage color. I planted more seeds from my original order and had a few to germinate. I grow several varieties of the Japanese Morning Glories, and this plant with the foliage and blooms is definitely my favorite of all that I grow. It is a little more trouble, but well worth it.

What are the pros? leaves & flowers are lovely

What are the cons? nothing

Review:

this is absolutely the most beautiful morning glory I've ever seen. The deep green leaves are splotched with with lighter shades of green, like someone splattered paint on them. Then the flowers! I cannot say enough about them. Large beautiful blooms. They are so worth the time, money (my husband was shocked I paid the price I did, but when he saw the end result, he admitted it was worth it), and small amount of effort in the beginning. I noticed in some reviews it stated they were slow to germinate. I am not sure if anyone tried this method before planting them, but I always do this to all of my morning glories before planting. I take an emory board, sand paper, a steak knife, or one of my husbands files from his toolbox & nick the outer shell of the seed. Not too much, just enough to cut through that thick outer shell so it barely exposes just the outer part of the soft fleshy inner seed. I then soak them in water over night & plant the next day. Germinates in 7-10 days.

What are the pros? Beautiful, fast growing

What are the cons? Slow to germinate

Review:

I've planted these morning glories indoors and they've done incredibly well despite being confined to containers. It took about three weeks for all of them to come up, but they all eventually germinated and grew quickly as soon as they did. It's exciting to see new flowers - each one is a little different and they're incredibly beautiful additions to my apartment.

What are the pros? Flowers, leaves

What are the cons? difficult germ, flowers wilt

Review:

I had bought these a while back and wasn't able to get them to grow the first time. Baker Creek stands by their seeds and sent me a replacement pack. This year I babied them a little bit and had a 100% germination rate. The plants start off kind of slow, took at least a month to get going. Once they did they took over my white fence and ugly old patio enclosure. Produces beautiful big flowers every morning. From light pastel blue to deep blue and purple. Variegated leaves. I wish the flowers would last longer into the day but they're worth waking up early for. Can't wait to do more with these.

What are the pros? gorgeous, easy to grow

What are the cons? Not so easy to germinate...

Review:

I planted these late in the season, so they didn't have more than a month or so to grow before the frost hit, but once they got started they were amazing! Only two of mine germinated, but I was trying different methods to start them. From those two, I was able to collect 5 seeds. The color was astounding, sometimes bright blue speckled, but just as often pastel blue or pink striped. I planted it in the same pot as my jasmine sambac, and they did very well together.
