(Zea mays). Wow, finally an open-pollinated, super sweet corn that is perfect for the home gardener. These are not only sugar sweet, but also have that old-fashioned corn flavor! This sweet corn comes from a traditional seed breeder in Germany as a very sweet, fairly early variety bearing large yellow kernels. It is a sugar-enhanced corn that will grow well in many different places. Our sweetest variety, perfect for fresh eating, canning, freezing, and adding to a myriad of delicious dishes, and best of all you can save your own seeds for future gardens and gardeners!

Growing Tips: Damaun KS Super Sweet corn thrives in well-drained, fertile soil and benefits from consistent moisture during germination and pollination. Rotate your crops annually and mulch around young plants to conserve soil moisture and suppress weeds.

When to Grow

Direct sow seeds outdoors in late spring, after the last frost when soil temperatures reach at least 60°F. In cooler climates, use black plastic mulch to warm the soil before planting. How to Sow and Plant

Plant corn seeds 1 to 1.5 inches deep in rows spaced 30–36 inches apart. Group seeds in blocks rather than long rows to ensure effective pollination. Thin seedlings to 12 inches apart once established.

How to Grow

Keep soil consistently moist, especially during tasseling and ear development. Fertilize with a nitrogen-rich organic feed at least twice—once when plants reach knee-high and again when they begin to tassel. Hill soil around the base for added support in windy areas.

How to Save Seeds

  • Corn is wind pollinated and will easily cross with other varieties (including GMO corn!). You will need at least 1 mile of isolation to avoid cross pollination. You can also use staggered timing or caging techniques.
  • Hand pick ears when fully dried on stalk. Seeds keep best if left on the ear; just remove at planting time.
  • Sweet corn seeds will remain viable for 2 years; dent corn will last up to 5 years when properly stored in an airtight container.

FAQ

How do I know when Damaun KS Super Sweet corn is ready to harvest?

Harvest when the silks have turned brown and the ears feel full. Pierce a kernel—if the juice is milky, it's ready. Clear liquid means it needs more time.

Can Damaun KS Super Sweet corn be grown in containers?

It’s not ideal for containers due to its height and pollination needs. However, if space is limited, use large, deep containers and grow in blocks for better pollination.

Why are my corn kernels underdeveloped?

Incomplete pollination is a common cause. Ensure plants are grown in blocks and hand-pollinate if needed by shaking tassels to distribute pollen onto silks.
