Kale Seeds,
Scarlet
Description
(Brassica oleracea var. sabellica). A lovely curled "red" kale that produces lots of delicious, frilly leaves and takes the chill of winter in stride! Pretty in the flower garden or on the plate. Rich in nutrition and flavor. In our preliminary tests, it had almost as much vitamin C as oranges, the most of any kale we tested in 2020. A true superfood that is so pretty!
Growing Tips: Scarlet kale grows best in cooler weather, which can even enhance its color and flavor. This variety is frost hardy, making it an excellent choice for fall and early spring planting. It grows best in full sun but can tolerate partial shade, especially in warmer climates to prevent bolting. Plant in rich soil.

FAQ
How tall does Scarlet kale grow?
It can grow up to 2-3 feet tall at full size. Plants grown for tender leaves are spaced 8 inches apart and will spread wider if given more room. This height makes it an excellent choice not only for garden beds but also for adding it to ornamental garden designs.
Can Scarlet kale be grown in warmer climates?
While it prefers cooler temperatures for optimal color and taste, it can still be grown in warmer climates with some care. In hotter regions, plant Scarlet kale in a spot that receives morning sun and afternoon shade to prevent it from bolting and to protect it from heat stress. Consistent watering and mulching can also help keep the soil cool and moist.
Can Scarlet Kale be grown in containers?
Yes, it can. Use a pot that is at least 12 inches deep and wide to provide sufficient space for the roots.
