Growing Guide

When to Grow

Yellow Trinidad Scorpion matures in about 95 days. Start seed indoors in bright light 8 to 12 weeks before your last frost date. Sow ¼ inch deep; pepper seed can be challenging to germinate, but a heat mat or another warm spot in the house helps, and at good temperatures of 80–85°F seed sprouts promptly, generally in 7 to 10 days. Harden the plants off and set them out 14 to 18 inches apart in full sun once outdoor temperatures hold steady at 65°F and all chance of frost is past.

FAQ

How does Yellow Trinidad Scorpion compare to the classic Trinidad Scorpion?

It is a natural variant with considerably less heat — still plenty hot, but pleasantly citrusy with it. The fruit ripens yellow to orange and often bears the infamous scorpion tail.

Is it a heavy producer?

Yes. It is more productive than other Scorpion types.

The fruit is rotting at the blossom end — what went wrong?

That is blossom end rot, a common pepper ailment and one of the most easily remedied. Inconsistent watering is usually the cause, so water consistently and consider drip tape irrigation.

What gardeners are saying

  • Near-perfect germination: Most seeds sprout within a few days on a heat mat.

  • Sweet, citrusy heat: Fruity, scorching heat; one pod lifts a whole pot of sauce.

  • Sturdy plants: Tall, large-leafed plants that keep thriving in extreme heat.

  • Heads up: Pods ripen late in the season, so start seeds early.
