FAQ
What makes Rabat Market different from other peanuts?
It is a massive and delicious peanut from Morocco. Our friend and seed saver Rudy Harnisch found these mammoth pods at a market in Rabat and sent them to us, and we were astounded by the size and dazzled by the flavor. Peanuts are a staple in Moroccan cuisine, found in everything from soups to baked goods.
How do the peanuts actually form underground?
The flowers need a clear path to send down pegs that hit the soil and make peanuts, so keep the bed well weeded. When the plants begin to flower, mound soil around the base, and once pegs develop, keep the soil consistently moist. Discontinue watering about 2 weeks before harvesting.
How do I harvest and cure the crop?
Gently check the soil for peanuts when the plant's foliage begins to yellow. Pull the entire plant, shake off excess soil, and let it dry for about a week. Then remove the pods and dry them in a cool, dry space for 2 to 3 weeks to cure. Enjoy them raw, boiled, roasted, or save them to grow again next season.
