Carrot Seeds,
St. Valery
Description
(Daucus carota). Our favorite orange carrot for juice, with intense flavor, hints of ginger, and an incredible, earthy sweetness! The Vilmorins of France mentioned this variety in 1885 and said it had been grown a "long time" then. A large, handsome variety with bright red-orange, 10- to 12-inch-long roots.
Growing Tips: This carrot prefers loose, well-draining soil, ideally a loamy or sandy texture, with a slightly acidic pH (around 6.0-6.5). Full sun is essential for optimal growth, though they can tolerate light shade in hotter climates. Regular watering is important to keep the soil consistently moist, which helps prevent the roots from becoming woody or splitting.

FAQ
How deep should I plant St. Valery carrot seeds?
Sow seeds at a depth of 1/8 inch.
Can St. Valery carrots be grown in containers?
Yes, but use a deep container - at least 16 to 18 inches of loose, stone-free soil - so the 10- to 12-inch roots are not stopped short; otherwise choose a shorter Nantes or Chantenay type for pots.
What are the ideal growing conditions for St. Valery carrot?
Carrots prefer light and fluffy soil in full sun, adequate moisture but only average fertilizing.
