When to Grow

Lavender Lady needs 85 to 100 days from sowing to flower and is a tender annual, so plan the whole season on the warm side of frost. Start seed indoors 6 to 8 weeks before your last frost date and transplant out after all chance of frost has passed; direct seeding outdoors after the last frost works too. Germination runs 7 to 14 days at an ideal germination temperature of 70 to 75°F, and the plants themselves do best at 70 to 78°F. Once they are up, this is a care-free, heat- and drought-tolerant plant that stays just under 2 feet tall and keeps blooming all season.

FAQ

How far apart should Lavender Lady plants go?

Space them 10 inches apart in full sun, with the seed sown 1/8 to 1/4 inch deep in well-drained soil. The compact, floriferous plants finish just under 2 feet tall.

Can I save seed from Lavender Lady?

Yes. Let the flower heads containing the seed mature and dry completely on the plant, clip them off, then rub them between your palms over a clean container to break them apart. Screen and winnow the seed from the chaff and store it somewhere cool, dry, and dark over winter.

Is Lavender Lady hard to keep alive in a hot summer?

It is the ultimate care-free plant, heat and drought tolerant with long season blooming. Give it well-drained soil and resist consistent overwatering, which causes oedema.
