Gourd Seeds,
Cluster Ridge Luffa
Description
(Luffa acutangula). The orb-shaped fruit of Cluster Ridge gourd is delicious when picked young for curries, stir fries, or soup. They are used much like zucchini. Cluster Ridge gourds are very easy to grow and have good disease resistance. These were introduced to us by our friend Solomon Amuzu, of Call to Nature Permaculture in Ghana. Cluster Ridge gourds do best when trellised.
Growing Tips: Cluster Ridge luffa gourd, also known as angled luffa or ridged sponge gourd, is a vigorous climber that thrives in long, hot summers. It produces slender, ridged fruits used young as vegetables or mature as natural sponges. Provide strong trellising to support heavy vines, and ensure full sun, warm soil, and consistent watering. Properly supported vines produce straighter fruits and reduce disease risk.

FAQ
Can I eat Cluster Ridge luffa gourds?
Yes. Harvest fruits when young for tender, edible gourds. Mature gourds become fibrous and are best used for making sponges or crafts.
How long does it take to grow luffa gourds?
Cluster Ridge luffa requires about 110–130 days of warm weather to mature fully. In short-season climates, start indoors early and transplant outdoors after frost.
Why are my luffa fruits misshapen or short?
Uneven watering or lack of support can cause curved fruits. Train vines vertically and maintain steady soil moisture to encourage straight, uniform growth.
