Stock Seeds,
Murasaki No Uta
Description
This royal purple, single-stemmed variety is fragrant and resplendent in the garden, vase, or even on the dinner plate! Averaging 34 to 40 inches tall, each plant produces a robust and floriferous stalk of regal, ruffled blooms, so well suited to cutting and arranging. This Japanese variety is a favorite for ikebana, the Japanese art of flower arranging, and it is a great way to infuse sweet, clove-like fragrance and bold color into designs. Stocks are a popular choice for home gardeners in Japan, and these beautiful cousins of the cabbage do have edible flowers! We love to use stock flowers for flavoring and naturally dyeing everything from rice to pastries. They also taste phenomenal fresh in salads and as garnish.
Growing Tips: Transplant or direct seed in place in early spring. Plants prefer full sun and well-draining soils. Succession plant for continuous blooms.

FAQ
How tall does Murasaki No Uta get?
Averaging 34 to 40 inches, with each plant carrying one robust, floriferous stalk of regal, ruffled royal purple blooms.
Can the purple flowers be used in the kitchen?
Stocks are edible cousins of the cabbage. We use these flowers for flavoring and naturally dyeing everything from rice to pastries, and they taste phenomenal fresh in salads or as a garnish.
Why do my plants bloom poorly once it warms up?
Stocks prefer cool weather and their blooming ability suffers in summer's heat. Murasaki No Uta needs 110 to 150 days to reach maturity, so start it as early as the soil can be worked and let the stalk finish before high summer; in mild-winter regions sow in fall for late-winter and spring bloom, and succession sow for continuous cutting.
