Bean Seeds,
Mbombo Green
Description
(Phaseolus vulgaris) Pole bean. Bright emerald green dry beans are delicious in soups or eaten as a green bean. 5- to 6- inch pods yield kidney-shaped beans in the most dazzling gemstone colors of the plant kingdom. Drought and heat tolerant, the bean originated in Kenya where its name, Mbombo, has an association to a Creator God of the same name. The bean is thought to be a sign of prosperity and brings good fertility to the soil. Great for a trellis or small fence. This pole to semi-pole bean is brought to us by Stephen Smith from his colorful bean collection.
Growing Tips: Mbombo Green beans are drought and heat tolerant. To ensure optimal growth, plant these beans in full sun and well-draining soil. Adding compost or aged manure before planting can improve soil fertility and water retention.

FAQ
Do Mbombo Green beans need support?
Yes, they are a pole variety and require support such as a trellis or a small fence to grow properly.
How often should I plant new seeds for continuous harvest?
You do not need to. Mbombo Green is a pole to semi-pole bean, so one sowing bears over a long season rather than all at once the way a bush bean does. If you do want a second planting, make it early enough that at least 50-60 frost-free days remain, since these beans are not frost-hardy.
Are Mbombo Green beans frost-hardy?
No, they are not frost-hardy and should be planted after the last frost date in your area.
