Description
Enormous pods contain up to 7 large, flat, green favas each! This is arguably the finest English fava variety known. That's saying a lot, because the English love their favas. It won a Royal Horticultural Society award for productivity. Robust plants can grow to about 3 feet tall.

When to Grow

Direct sow Masterpiece as soon as the soil can be worked in the spring, or sow in fall if you garden in USDA zone 7 or warmer, where the plants can overwinter; in zone 6 and colder, fall sowing usually winterkills, so sow in spring instead. Plant seeds 1 to 2 inches deep and 6 inches apart in rows 2 to 3 feet apart; at the ideal germination temperature of 45 to 65 F they come up in 7 to 14 days.

Favas like cool weather and struggle in heat, and temperatures over 75 F will begin to stress the plants, so select a growing window that provides a longer cool period for these robust 3-foot plants.
