Salpiglossis Seeds,
Cafe Au Lait
Description
These beautiful blooms are a striking departure from the typical flower colors. The petals come in a range of coffee tones, from mocha to light roast caramel, with a golden throat. Stunning 2-inch trumpet flowers are set atop stout, 8- to 12-inch stems. Plants are best suited to containers and the front of the bed or border, and they look especially stunning when planted closely (4 inches apart is best). Pelleted seed.
Growing Tips: Sow indoors 4-6 weeks before last frost. Barely cover, as light aids germination. Cold stratification for 2 weeks will improve germination. Plantings every 2-3 weeks until midsummer provide the best blooms. May require support.

FAQ
Does Cafe Au Lait seed need light to germinate?
Yes. Light aids germination, so barely cover the pelleted seed rather than burying it. Seedlings appear in about 10 to 12 days at 70 to 75 F.
How closely should I plant it?
Space plants 9 to 15 inches apart in a bed or border, though they look especially stunning planted closely, about 4 inches apart, for a massed container display. Because the stems are only 8 to 12 inches tall, this is the salpiglossis for containers and the front edge of a bed or border rather than the middle of a planting.
What do the flowers look like?
Stunning 2-inch trumpets in coffee tones, from mocha to light roast caramel, each with a golden throat, carried on stout 8- to 12-inch stems. Deadhead to keep the blooms coming, and do not overwater; salpiglossis is fairly drought tolerant and dislikes extreme heat and humidity.
